I received my PhD in 2001 from the interdisciplinary Centre for the Study of Religion at the University of Toronto. I have been teaching at Laurier since 1998 and I joined the Department of Sociology in 2001.
I currently have three active research projects. One involves a Climate Action and Knowledge Survey of first-year students at Laurier (with Dr. Debora VanNijnatten, Department of Political Science/North American Studies). The second involves research on older adults who lost their jobs in the U.S. Great Recession (with Dr. Annette Nierobisz, Carleton College). The third involves an analysis of advocacy and mobilization efforts by and on behalf of unpaid/family caregivers of older adults (with a research team led by Dr. Laura Funk, University of Manitoba).
Alongside these research pursuits, I am very interested in the scholarship of teaching and learning, and in experimenting with innovative ways to engage students in the undergraduate classroom.
Graduate students in areas related to my research interests are invited to contact me to discuss potential supervision or supervisory committee membership.
