I received my PhD in Sociology of Education at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto in 1995 and my MEd in Counselling from the University of Ottawa in 1988.
Prior to joining Laurier, I was an assistant professor in Women Studies and Sociology at St. Francis Xavier University (1999-2002).
I have been interested in gender and Islam since 1990. More specifically, I have examined the lives of Muslim women in Canada, the Zina Ordinance in Pakistan and reading Hindi cinema. My current research project examines the struggles by khawaja sara (transgender) for human and sexual rights in Pakistan.
