I am a Certified Music Therapist (CAMT), a Registered Psychotherapist (CRPO), and an AMI-endorsed Guided Imagery and Music practitioner. I am also a Laurier Alumni (MMT Music Psychotherapy), and hold additional degrees from Bowling Green State University (MMus Collaborative Piano) and West Virginia University (BMus Piano & Voice Performance).
My career began as a music instructor and coach-accompanist in various university, school, and community institutions. I have also taught in non-profit settings and have witnessed music bring excitement and newfound hope to underprivileged youth and individuals with special needs. Teaching music among the disadvantaged and refugee communities in Malaysia ultimately led me toward a new career in music and wellness. Since completing clinical training, I have practiced as a music psychotherapist in cancer, palliative, and inpatient mental health care.
I now provide music therapy and psychotherapy at Grand River Hospital’s Mental Health and Addictions Program and supervise Laurier music psychotherapy interns. I also maintain a small teaching and music psychotherapy practice at the Laurier Academy of Music and Arts.
Working with individuals and supporting them towards their full potential has always been a personal interest. In this sense, my approach to teaching, clinical supervision, and therapy is similar. It brings me fulfilment to see students grow as musicians, to see interns grow as therapists, and to see clients discover strengths to overcome life’s challenges. Whether it is to develop your musical skills, or to seek well-being and personal growth through music, I am here to support and guide you along your journey.
