Coach the Person, Not Just the Problem

Deepen your ability to evoke awareness, facilitate meaningful growth, and guide clients toward lasting transformation. In this course, you’ll learn how to connect with the whole person – not just their immediate challenge – while building the confidence to coach with presence, curiosity and purpose.

This course is part of our Transformational Leadership Coach Education program. 

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Strengthen a coaching mindset and refine your practice of the core coaching competencies.
  • Practice tools for coaching the person, not the problem
  • Discover best practices for facilitating client growth and accountability.
  • Learn to coach a client to identify the core values that motivate their actions.
  • Explore tools for helping clients practice clear and kind communication (Radical Candor).
  • Discover Working Genius, an assessment built by The Table Group, that helps clients identify the kind of work that holds the most joy, energy and meaning.
  • Receive customized feedback about your strengths and areas for growth as a coach with a particular focus on evoking awareness (competency 7) and facilitating client growth (competency 8).

Program Structure

Part B: Coaching for Transformation includes:

  1. Live virtual instruction and peer coaching practice – 20 hours
  2. Self-directed learning, including readings and reflective writing assignments – 10 hours

Total: 30 ICF-approved coach education hours

  • Small-group learning that fosters reflection, connection and skill refinement.

Workload and Commitment

This 30-hour course is designed to be immersive and rigorous with:

  • 20 hours of live, virtual sessions
  • Eight hours of self-paced learning, including assigned readings and reflective writing assignments

Please ensure you are able to commit to the full workload before registering. Extensions are not available.

Completion Requirements

This is a non-credit professional development course. Completion will be on a pass/fail basis. To successfully complete the course, participants must:

  • Attend and actively participate in all required virtual sessions. Cameras should be turned on as much as possible, and are required during demonstrations and practice coaching.
  • Submission of final assignment.

Course Materials

Your registration fee includes a comprehensive printed workbook, filled with course content, helpful resources, reflective activities and space for personal notes.

You will also need to purchase the following required textbook (not included in the course fee): Sauve, Kathy (2023). High Impact Coaching: It Starts with You! Inspirational Book Writers.

Prerequisite

Completion of Part A of our program, or an approved equivalent foundational training in the ICF core competencies.
