Degree Highlights

Your future professors work hard to make sure your academic experience is current, complete and designed to open doors in your career. Here are a few things you can count on in this program:

  • Career-Ready Curriculum: Develop strong algorithm analysis and design skills in procedural, object-oriented and low-level languages, with an optional introduction to functional, parallel, and logical paradigms.
  • Extensive Lab Time: We know hands-on experience is key to your understanding of computing fundamentals, so you’ll spend lots of time in the lab starting in first year.
  • Start with a Solid Foundation: Laurier’s first-year courses provide the critical background needed for success, regardless of your high school computer science experience.
  • Personalize Your Degree to Your Interests: In senior years, you will select courses in application areas ranging from internet computing to writing apps for mobile computing, from applied cryptography to quantum computing.

Top Experiences

Here are just a few of our students’ favourite ways to apply their learning in the real world throughout their degree (check out the Experience Guide for even more!):

  • Co-op: You can apply to co-op at the end of first year, and complete three four-month work terms over the course of your four-year degree.
  • Competitions: Take the iPhone Application Programming course for the opportunity to present your own custom app to judges (and maybe even win a prize).
  • Collaboration: Participate in the Undergraduate Capstone Open Source Projects (UCOSP), where you will work with students from universities across Canada.
  • Professional Experience Program: Participate in a 12- or 16-month work term to gain real-world experience in programming, networking technology, quality assurance, technical support or information technology consulting.
