Todd Gordon

I am currently working on two projects. One looks at the authoritarian disposition of capitalist societies historically and contemporary democratic decline, as well as the international (including Canadian) resurgence of the far right. The other is on imperialism and global order today, including the intensifying geopolitical competition between major powers and subordination of the Global South in the world system.

My last book, Blood of extraction, is on Canadian imperialism and ecological predation in Latin America. It looks at the role of Canadian corporations, particularly in mining, in the violent displacement of people from their lands, the central role played by Canadian foreign and security policy in facilitating the practices of Canadian companies, and community resistance to Canadian practice and policies. It offers an anti-imperialist analysis of Canadian actions in Latin America. 

I can supervise students working in the areas of global capitalism, authoritarianism & the far right, imperialism, theories of social justice, Marxist theory, and Canada in the Global South.
