College Pathways

Pathways to Human Rights (BA) at Laurier

We have a variety of agreements and articulations with Ontario colleges that allow you to diversify your educational experience and complete your Human Rights (BA) degree at Laurier in less time. We encourage you to take the time to review all your options below. Regardless of the pathway you choose, throughout your Human Rights degree you will take courses in topics such as diversity, advocacy, cross-cultural perspectives, the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and more.

Once you have accepted your offer, please consult Academic Advising and our Course Registration Guide to determine where you are with your program requirements, the specific courses you'll need to complete and the length of your academic journey at Laurier.

2 or 3 Year College Diplomas

Students who have successfully completed a 2/3 Year College Diploma may be eligible for admission into the Human Rights (BA) program at Laurier's Brantford campus via this block transfer agreement.

  • Required final admission average from a diploma program: 75%+
  • Other admission requirements: 60%+ in a 4U English (or equivalent)
  • Number of transfer credits granted: 6.0 (2-year diploma) OR 7.5 (3-year diploma)*
  • Number of Laurier credits required to graduate: 12.5 – 14.0 

Please note, your exact transfer credits will be determined based on your unique academic journey and outlined in a transfer credit assessment as part of your offer package.

General Arts & Science Diploma (Mohawk College)

Students who have successfully completed a Mohawk College General Arts and Science Diploma may be eligible for admission into the Human Rights (BA) program at Laurier's Brantford campus via this 2+2 agreement.

  • Required final average from this diploma program: 75%+ 
  • Other admission requirements: 60%+ in a 4U English (or equivalent) & proof of graduation 
  • Number of transfer credits granted: 10.0 
  • Number of Laurier credits required to graduate: 10.0  

Required Mohawk Courses

To be eligible for this pathway, you must complete the following (in addition to the seven (7) required courses of your Mohawk program):

  • PSOL 10013: Introduction to Government in Society
  • SSCI 10047: Introduction to Sociology
  • A minimum of eight courses must be completed from the courses listed below:
    • INDS 2022: First Nations, Metis, and Inuit Perspectives
    • HIST 10020: History of War & Society in the 20th Century
    • INDS 10031: Impacts of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission
    • PSOL 10011: Introduction to Globalization
    • PSYC 10015: Human Sexuality
    • SSCI 10080: Self and Society
    • SSCI AS105: Race and Ethnic Dynamics
    • PHIL 10000: Introduction to Philosophy
    • SSCI 10066: Labour Studies
    • SSCI 10067: Women’s Studies
    • HIST 10022: History of Western Civilization II
    • PHIL 10001: World Religions
    • PSOL 100012: Political Economy

Anticipated Transfer Credits

These are the transfer credits you will receive (outlined in your offer letter) if you are admitted via this pathway:

  • HR 101: Human Rights: Advocacy and Analysis
  • OL 233: Introduction to Social Science Research Methods
  • 5.0 credits: Human Rights (100 level)
  • 4.0 credits: Human Rights (200 level)

Human Services Foundations Certificate (Conestoga College)

Students who have successfully completed Conestoga College’s Human Services Foundations Certificate may be eligible for admission into the Human Rights (BA) program at Laurier's Brantford campus via this articulation agreement.

  • Required final average from this certificate program: 75%+   
  • Other admission requirements: 60%+ in a 4U English (or equivalent)
  • Number of transfer credits granted: 4.0 
  • Number of Laurier credits required to graduate: 16.0 

Anticipated Transfer Credits

These are the transfer credits you will receive (outlined in your offer letter) if you are admitted via this pathway:

  • HR300: Professionalization Seminar 
  • 0.5 credit: Leadership and Human Resources Management (100 level) 
  • 1.0 credit: Interdisciplinary (100 level) 
  • 0.5 credit: Psychology (200 level) 
  • 0.5 credit: Social and Environmental Justice (200 level) 
  • 0.5 credit: Human Rights (200 level) 

Office Administration General Certificate (Conestoga College)

Students who have successfully completed Conestoga College’s Office Administration General Certificate may be eligible for admission into the Human Rights (BA) program at Laurier's Brantford campus via this articulation agreement.

  • Required final average from this certificate program: 75%+   
  • Other admission requirements: 60%+ in a 4U English (or equivalent)
  • Number of transfer credits granted: 3.5 
  • Number of Laurier credits required to graduate: 16.5 

Anticipated Transfer Credits

These are the transfer credits you will receive (outlined in your offer letter) if you are admitted via this pathway:

  • EN206: Writing for Business
  • CP102: Information Processing with Microcomputer Systems
  • HR300: Professionalization Seminar
  • 0.5 credit: English (100 level)
  • 0.5 credit: Computer Science (100 level)
  • 1.0 credit: Interdisciplinary (100 level)

Office Administration Executive Diploma (Conestoga College)

Students who have successfully completed Conestoga College’s Office Administration – Executive Diploma may be eligible for admission into the Human Rights (BA) program at Laurier's Brantford campus via this articulation agreement. 

  • Required final average from this executive diploma program: 75%+   
  • Other admission requirements: 60%+ in a 4U English (or equivalent)
  • Number of transfer credits granted: 6.5 
  • Number of Laurier credits required to graduate: 13.5

Office Administration Legal Diploma (Conestoga College)

Students who have successfully completed Conestoga College’s Office Administration – Legal Diploma may be eligible for admission into the Human Rights (BA) program at Laurier's Brantford campus via this articulation agreement.  

  • Required final average from this legal diploma program: 75%+   
  • Other admission requirements: 60%+ in a 4U English (or equivalent)
  • Number of transfer credits granted: 7.5 
  • Number of Laurier credits required to graduate: 12.5

Select Graduate Certificates (Conestoga College)

Students who have successfully completed Conestoga College’s Career Development Professional, Event Management or Project Management graduate certificate, may be eligible for admission into the Human Rights (BA) program at Laurier's Brantford campus via this articulation agreement. Graduates must have also earned a diploma or advanced diploma from an accredited college*.  

  • Required final average from graduate certificate program: 70%+   
  • Required final average from diploma/advanced diploma program: 75%+
  • Other admission requirements: 60%+ in a 4U English (or equivalent)
  • Number of transfer credits granted: 5.0+**
  • Number of Laurier credits required to graduate: 10.0+ 

* If you have instead previously completed an undergraduate degree, you will be admitted to Post-Degree Studies where you can choose to work towards a Human Rights (BA) degree. 

**Eligible transfer applicants will be granted 5.0 transfer credits from completing the graduate certificate program, in addition to any additional transfer credits they are eligible for from their diploma/advanced diploma, according to Laurier’s transfer credit policy.

These are the transfer credits you will receive (outlined in your offer letter) if you are admitted via this pathway, depending on which certificate you have completed:

Academic Partnership Pathway (Conestoga College)

In only four years, you can earn a Human Rights (BA) degree from Laurier and one of the following graduate certificates from Conestoga College: Career Development Professional, Event Management, Human Resources Management, Management in Community Services or Project Management. To enrol in courses at Conestoga College, you must obtain a Letter of Permission by submitting the online request form.

  • Admission requirements: 60%+ in a 4U English (or equivalent)
  • Number of transfer credits granted from graduate certificate completion: 5.0
  • Number of Laurier credits required to graduate with BA: 15.0 

Standard Academic Schedule

The standard academic schedule as part of this academic partnership will look like:  

  • Year 1: Attend Laurier (apply to academic partnership at the end of year 1)
  • Year 2: Attend Laurier
  • Year 3: Attend Conestoga College
  • Year 4: Attend Laurier 

The timeline in which you attend Laurier may look different than what is listed above. You must have completed 10.0+ Laurier credits (including at least 2.5 credits towards your Human Rights major) before starting at Conestoga College. Connect with your academic advisor to determine your optimal course registration schedule.

If you are interested in transferring into this program with an academic history different than what is outlined above, apply using the undergraduate application form and your transfer credits will be assessed on an individual basis and reported to you, along with your offer letter, upon admission to Laurier.
