Pathways to Music (BA) at Laurier 

Throughout your Bachelor of Music degree, you will take courses in topics such as music performance, production, creation and style.

Once you have accepted your offer, please consult Academic Advising and our Course Registration Guide to determine where you are with your program requirements, the specific courses you'll need to complete and the length of your academic journey at Laurier.

Performing Arts Diploma (Randolph College for the Performing Arts) 

Students who have successfully completed Randolph College for the Performing Arts (RCPA's) Performing Arts Diploma may be eligible for admission into the Music (BA) program at Laurier's Waterloo campus via this articulation agreement

  • Completion of RCPA’s two-year Performing Arts diploma program
  • Other admission requirements: 60% in a 4U English (or equivalent) and proof of graduation
  • Number of transfer credits granted: 10.0
  • Number of Laurier credits required to graduate: 10.0 

Additional Admission Requirements 

To be eligible for this pathway, you must also complete the following admissions requirements: 

  • Regardless of whether Laurier or RCPA is attended first, students must apply for transfer to the other program within 10 years of their final year enrolled in a qualifying program at their initial institution.
  • Enrolment at both Laurier and RCPA requires successful completion of an audition with each institution. 

Anticipated Transfer Credits 

These are the transfer credits you will receive (outlined in your offer letter) if you are admitted via this pathway:

  • MU181 (0.25) 
  • MU281 (0.25) 
  • 2.25 credits: Music (100-level)
  • 2.25 credits: Music (200-level)
  • 2.5 credits: Interdisciplinary (100-level)
  • 2.5 credits: Interdisciplinary (200-level) 

Audio Production and Engineering Diploma (Metalworks Institute)

Students who have successfully completed Metalworks Institute's Audio Production and Engineering Diploma may be eligible for admission into the Music (BA) program at Laurier's Waterloo campus via this articulation agreement.

  • Completion of Metalworks’s Audio Production Engineering diploma
  • Other admission requirements: 60% in a 4U English (or equivalent) and proof of graduation
  • Number of transfer credits granted: 5.0
  • Number of Laurier credits required to graduate: 15.0 

Additional Admission Requirements 

To be eligible for this pathway, you must also complete the following admissions requirements: 

  • Regardless of whether Laurier or RCPA is attended first, students must apply for transfer to the other program within 10 years of their final year enrolled in a qualifying program at their initial institution.

Anticipated Transfer Credits 

These are the transfer credits you will receive (outlined in your offer letter) if you are admitted via this pathway:

  • 2.5 credits: Music (200-level) 
  • 2.0 credits: Music (300-level)   
  • 0.5 credit: Interdisciplinary (200-level) 

Academic Partnership Pathway (Randolph College for the Performing Arts)

In only four years, students in the RCPA academic partnership pathway will complete a Bachelor of Music (BMus) in Voice Performance from Laurier and a Performing Arts diploma from RCPA. To enrol in courses at RCPA pathway, you must obtain a Letter of Permission by submitting the online request form.  

  • Admissions requirements: 60% in a 4U English (or equivalent)
  • Number of transfer credits granted: 5.0 
  • Number of Laurier credits required to graduate: 20.0 

Additional Admission Requirements 

To be eligible for this pathway, you must also complete the following admissions requirements: 

  • Regardless of whether Laurier or RCPA is attended first, students must apply for transfer to the other program within 10 years of their final year enrolled in a qualifying program at their initial institution.

Standard Academic Schedule 

The standard academic schedule as part of this academic partnership will look like: 

  • Year 1: Attend Laurier (apply for academic partnership at the end of year 1)
  • Year 2: Attend Laurier 
  • Year 3: Attend RCPA 
  • Year 4: Attend Laurier

Academic Partnership Pathway (Metalworks Institute)

In only four years, students in the Metalworks academic partnership pathway will complete a Bachelor of Music (BMus) from Laurier and an Audio Production and Engineering diploma from Metalworks Institute. To enrol in courses in the Metalworks pathway, you must obtain a Letter of Permission by submitting the online request form. 

  • Admissions requirements: 60% in a 4U English (or equivalent)
  • Number of transfer credits granted: 5.0 
  • Number of Laurier credits required to graduate: 20.0 

Standard Academic Schedule 

  • Year 1: Laurier (apply to academic partnership at the end of year 1)
  • Year 2: Laurier 
  • Year 3: Metalworks 
  • Year 4: Laurier

Learn More About Transferring to Laurier

If you have additional questions about your transition to Laurier, financial aid for transfer students or transfer credit evaluation, visit our transfer students website. If you are interested in transferring into this program with an academic history different than what is outlined above, apply using the undergraduate application form and your transfer credits will be assessed on an individual basis and reported to you, along with your offer letter, upon admission to Laurier.
